Story behind it's construction


Taj Mahal


Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had 3 wives . Mumtaz Mahal was his 2nd wife . He married Mumtaz in 1612 . He died in 1631 when she was giving birth to her 14th child . She was extremely beautiful  and most beloved wife of Shah Jahan . After her death Shah Jahan was devastated . He did not make any public appearance for a week . It was said that from constant weeping , his vision blurred . He constructed a very beautiful tomb for her burial and named it Rauza-e-munavvara , which is now popularly known as Taj Mahal . It took almost 17 years to construct it . There were more than 22000 labourers and more than 1500 elephants were used in the construction of Taj Mahal . It costed around 32 million in Indian ruppes for its construction and would cost 52.8 billion ruppes in today's time . Taj Mahal is in the bank of Yamuna river . Shah Jahan wanted to build a black Taj Mahal in another side of Yamuna river. But Aurangzeb put his father under house arrest in Agra fort from July 1658 until his death in January 1666 . It is said that the Taj Mahal was clearly visible to the jail in which Shah Jahan was arrested .  Shah Jahan spend his life in jail by seeing Taj Mahal and died by seeing Taj Mahal .

 1. Shah Jahan did not want any body to built any thing more beautiful than Taj Mahal , so he ordered to cut hands of labourers .

2. Taj Mahal takes pinkish hue in morning , milky white in evening and golden at night when illuminated by moonlight . 


3. More than one million people come to visit Taj Mahal during a year .


4.  To avoid any small damages people should wear paper shoes , vehicles are restricted to go near Taj Mahal and even helicopter and aeroplane are restricted to fly above  Taj Mahal.


5. In order to protect the crypt of  Mumtaz Mahal , chief architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri titled the towers slightly so that they would fall away from the rest of the Taj Mahal , preventing the grave from incurring any damages.



6. An optical illusion was created to built a genius illusion , If you move closer to gate , the taj keeps getting smaller , while it seems to grow as you away.

7. There are many rooms in Taj Mahal were no one are permitted to go . Because there is no ventilation facilities also , so there is extreme darkness inside it and only archeologist who have special petition of government can go there.


8. There were many precious gem's in Taj Mahal which was taken away by British during their rule .

 9. The foundation of Taj Mahal is made by wood . Wood absorbs the water of river Yamuna , if water of river Yamuna lasted then Taj Mahal will fall into river Yamuna .
